Health screens remain tax free for another year

HMRC has said that it will not attempt to tax employees who receive a health screen as part of their benefit package – at least for the tax year starting in April.

During 2007, HMRC announced that health screens for employees would be treated as a benefit in kind unless the company offered the benefit to all employees. It became clear very soon, however, that they had not thought through the full implications of what they were proposing, and the measure was hurriedly withdrawn.

The latest pronouncement is attached. From this it seems that, although no charges will be made in the coming tax year, HMRC has still not made up its mind on the subject.

We will keep you informed.
