Health screening – HMRC has a change of mind
HMRC has announced that it will not, after all, be intending to apply benefit in kind tax to the cost of executive health screens. Previously it had declared that health screens paid for by an employer would be liable to tax from 14 August 2007 unless the benefit was made available to all employees. The bulletin below indicates that it has now changed its mind

It appears that HMRC did not appreciate the radical nature of what it was announcing and had assumed that it was providing clarification rather than making any great changes.
This may not be the end of the story, however, as the note says that HRMC will consider making changes after it has had further consultations with employers and other interested parties.
